What is an Inter-district Transfer?
This is needed when families wish to enroll their student(s) at a school that is outside of the District in which they reside OR when parents wish to enroll their students into a Newark Unified School District school but physically reside in an another District's boundaries.
How Do I Apply for an Inter-District Transfer?
NEWARK RESIDENT
Email the completed form to enroll@newarkunified.org and be sure to attach all necessary background information including:
- Grades
- Transcript
- Attendance
- Discipline reports
- IEP (if applicable)
On the back page of the request form you will find the required documents needed to support the reason for transfer request.
NON-NEWARK RESIDENT
To transfer your student from another district into Newark Unified School District, you must begin the process within the DISTRICT IN WHICH YOU RESIDE. Please contact your current school district for questions and procedures.

Submit the form in person, by mail, or via email
- Mail it to the district office at 5715 Musick Avenue, ATTN: Pupil Services Department.
- Or you may scan the application and email it to
enroll@newarkunified.org
Interdistrict requests are NOT accepted at the school sites.
