Mr. Aiden Hill is a California native and a homeowner in Newark since 2001. For the bulk of his career, he has served as a management consultant helping top executives lead mission-critical efforts across a variety of industries. In recent years, Mr. Hill decided he wanted to give back to the next generation of Californians and has transitioned into a new role as a business teacher at Cupertino High School. Mr. Hill earned his undergraduate degree in History from Pomona College, a Master's in Business Administration from Michigan State University, and a Preliminary Teaching Credential from San Jose State University. He is looking forward to working with board members, staff, teachers, and the community at large to make NUSD one of the highest performing districts in the nation

Austin Block is a social science teacher currently employed at Washington High School in Fremont. He teaches AP United States History, Economics, and Government, while also serving as a facilitator for the school-wide Coordination of Services Team (COST). Prior to working in Fremont, Austin worked for five years at Luis Valdez Leadership Academy in East San Jose, teaching social studies while serving as an advisor and Varsity boys' soccer coach. He also spent six months at the National Center for Youth Law, where he served as an education liaison supporting youth on juvenile probation, collaborating with youth and their families to prepare for high school graduation and plan out career paths. Austin has a B.A. in Public Policy (education policy concentration) from Stanford University, along with an M.A. in Secondary Social Science Education, also from Stanford University. He looks forward to collaborating with the Newark community in support of Newark students.

My name is Gabriel Anguiano Jr., and I have been a resident of Newark for over 20 years. As a father of four and a husband of 25 years, family is at the heart of everything I do. With 21 years of experience in education, I currently serve as the Coordinator of Family & Community Engagement for the Ravenswood City School District. Passionate about helping others, I’m always looking for ways to strengthen and uplift my community.  

Joy Lee is a 12th grader at Newark Memorial High. She is passionate about advocating for students and makes sure that student voices are heard in decision-making. Having been part of the Newark Unified School District for the past nine years, she has developed a deep appreciation for the community and its schools. She is academically and actively involved at Newark Memorial as a 2nd-year captain of the Girl’s Tennis Team, Co-President of the Interact Club, and President of the Environment Club. She is also committed in other extracurricular; volunteering at the yearly Blood Drive and Special Olympics, performing in HATS with the Filipino Student Union, and representing Newark Memorial in MVALS for Track & Field, Badminton, and Tennis.

 Joy  is committed to promoting initiatives that support student equity, the environment, and the diverse student perspectives that come from Newark schools. In her role as Student Board Member she will be advocating for students at the board meetings.

She enjoys biking to the park, baking, crocheting, and, most recently, playing the guitar. Besides Korean food, her favorite is Thai food, especially green curry. She is open-minded and always ready for an adventure!
