Newark Unified School District is located in the city of Newark CA, a Northern California city of over 40,000 people in the San Francisco Bay Area. Newark enjoys a small town atmosphere, numerous opportunities for local shopping and recreation, and supportive, stable and solvent city government. It has deep historical roots, community pride, and spirit. The city of Newark is 35 miles south-east of San Francisco, 25 miles south of Oakland, and 20 miles north of San Jose. The Newark Unified School District serves approximately 6,000 K-12 students at twelve school sites, including one comprehensive high school, one continuation high school, one junior high school, and eight elementary schools. The District also offers independent study, preschool, childcare, summer intervention programs, and other programs for student and community support. Students are served by a dedicated staff of approximately 600 certificated, classified, and management employees. The district’s budget is $60,000,000, approximately 80% of which is dedicated to personnel costs. The district is very proud of all its schools, many of which have received local, state, and national recognition.
