June 8, 2020
Dear Newark Community,
Last week was the end of our 2019/20 school year. Thank you Newark families, students, parent organizations, teachers, classified staff and administrators for all of your work and dedication.
This summer, our Monday emails will continue so that we can keep in touch and share new information as it becomes available about our planning for the new school year. As a reminder, our first day of school will be on August 13, 2020.
As we continue planning for the fall, we will share some preliminary plans with our Board of Education on June 18, 2020 and will share the results of the family and staff surveys that were completed last week. We anticipate holding a special board meeting in July so we can make decisions based on the guidance from the California Department of Education (CDE), CDC guidelines, and from the Alameda County Health Officer. Today, the CDE issued school districts a Re-opening Guideline document to support our plans. We will use this to guide our work and after we review it will share more about it. We must be flexible and ready to change course if and when needed, with the health and safety of our students and staff as our highest priority.
This week, we start our summer meals distribution. We will continue to provide meals for all Newark children throughout the summer months at our current locations on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11a.m.- 12 p.m. As a reminder, children do not need to be present and multiple meals will be given out to reduce multiple trips.
