Dear Newark Community,
This week marks the end of our 2019/20 school year. It was a year full of collaboration, challenges, and accomplishments. Newark USD students and staff are phenomenal! They demonstrated their determination and love of Newark as we worked to end the year celebrating our students and their accomplishments. Thank you Newark families, students, parent organizations, teachers, classified staff and administrators for all of your work and dedication.
School districts prepare for emergencies and safety is a number one priority for all school administrators but I don’t think anything could have prepared us for this unprecedented time of a pandemic. It was your support and collaboration that truly supported us all through these last eleven weeks.
As we continue planning for the fall, we want to hear from you. Please be sure to complete the online survey that was sent to families last week and is listed below. We are looking at several plans that include the possibility of a hybrid model ( some in class instruction with some distance learning) and also 100% distance learning. We need to plan for all possibilities as we wait to hear from the Alameda County Health Officer.
We must be flexible and ready to change course if and when needed, with the health and safety of our students and staff as our highest priority.
We will continue to send out these Monday emails so that we can keep communicating with you throughout the summer with new information and also ask that you keep checking on our website on a regular basis. We will also continue to provide meals for all Newark children throughout the summer months at our current locations.
On behalf of the Newark Unified School District Board of Education, I wish you a wonderful summer and thank you for your support.
Leticia Salinas, Acting Superintendent
